VETERINARIANS

JERRY HINN, DVM

Practice Owner

Dr. Hinn is a Virginia native and received his DVM degree from the University of Georgia. His special interests include surgery, veterinary dentistry, birds and exotic pet care as well as that of cats and dogs. Another strong interest that he has developed is that of nutrition and vitamin supplementation. In addition to local and national veterinary associations, he is a member of the Veterinary Critical Care Society, the American Veterinary Dental Association and the National Veterinary Disaster Relief Association.

ELIZABETH EMBREE, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Elizabeth Embree joined Hayfield Animal Hospital in July 2010. She grew up in beautiful Springfield, VA. After graduating from Virginia Tech with an Honors Baccalaureate in Biology and minors in History and Chemistry in 1998, she attended and graduated from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. While in veterinary school, she assisted with an oral-rabies vaccine pilot program in Fairfax County. Her interests include exotics and surgery. Elizabeth lives in Alexandria with her husband, Mike, and a menagerie of pets.

BRITTANY COURSEN, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Brittany Coursen joined Hayfield Animal Hospital in 2021. She grew up in beautiful Virginia Beach and recently moved to Springfield, VA after accepting a job at Hayfield. She graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne college with an undergraduate in Biology and minor in Chemistry. She then went to the University of Tennessee where she obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree. She takes a special interest in feline medicine but also enjoys seeing her canine patients. In her free time she enjoys hiking, reading, going to the movies and trying new food places. She has two cats of her own, Hazelnut and Leonidas who she loves spending quality time with!

OLIVIA GORDON, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Gordon was born and raised in the St. Croix U.S Virgin Islands. Following graduation, she attended lowa State University, where she completed her Bachelor's of Science in Biology. Dr. Gordon attended Ross University to pursue her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and completed her clinical year at North Carolina State University in 2021.

Dr. Gordon's interests include preventative care, dentistry and soft tissue surgery. In her spare time, Dr. Gordon enjoys dancing, working out and spending time with friends and her husband and son. Dr. Gordon has two golden retrievers named Bleu and Teddy.

JAIRO TOBAR, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Tobar was born and raised in Ecuador, where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Universidad Central del Ecuador in 2014. He further advanced his education by obtaining a Master’s Degree in Animal Bioscience from the Roslin Institute at the University of Edinburgh in 2016.

As an active member of the Latinx Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. Tobar is proud to provide care for Spanish-speaking clients, helping ensure clear communication and exceptional veterinary care for both pets and their families. He also serves as a board member of the Alexandria Welfare League, where he works to promote awareness and advocacy for issues impacting the health and well-being of companion animals.

Known for his warm, compassionate approach, Dr. Tobar is dedicated to building lasting relationships with clients while providing high-quality medical care. He is passionate about helping animals live long, healthy, and happy lives.

Dr. Tobar resides in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria with his wife, two daughters, and their beloved senior German Shepherd–Husky rescue, Shaya. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and attending live music events.

LISA WATSON, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Watson joined the Hayfield Animal Hospital team in June 2024. She has had a lifelong passion for animal care and a diverse background shaped by her upbringing as a military brat. Born in California and raised in Virginia and Pennsylvania, she developed resilience and adaptability early in life—traits that now serve her well in veterinary medicine.

She earned her undergraduate degree from Shippensburg University, where her love for science and animals took root, and went on to pursue her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University. Her clinical interests include surgery, ophthalmology and client education.

At home, she enjoys the company of her cat, Tadashi, and has a not-so-secret soft spot for all things Patrick Swayze. Whether she's in the exam room or unwinding with a classic 80s film, Dr. Watson brings warmth, dedication, and a touch of charm to everything she does.
